Dear Valued Customers,

Philadelphia’s city council passed a 1.5 cent per ounce tax on sweetened beverages. This Law is called the Sugar-Sweetened beverage tax (“SBT). As a distributor of some items that are covered under this act in Philadelphia we are required by law to register and pay the SBT beginning January 1, 2017. In accordance with the law the tax on beverages sold in syrup or powder form is levied on the manufacturer’s suggested product yield not on the number of ounces in the case purchased.

This document serves as notification that Ellis Coffee Company is a Registered Distributor as defined in the regulation.

In accordance with the law you are required to provide notification to a Registered Distributor that you are a dealer of sweetened beverages in the city of Philadelphia. Notification to Ellis Coffee can be completed on our website at the following link.

Philadelphia Beverage Tax Notification
(online form to fill out)

Upon receipt of this completed form we will begin to separately state this tax as a surcharge on your invoice and will remit the proceeds to the City.

If we do not receive this notification form registering you as a dealer covered by the Philadelphia Sugar-Sweetened Beverage tax we will not add the tax via a surcharge to your purchase invoice and you will be 100% liable for the payment of SBT to the City of Philadelphia.

A list of items that we sell that are covered by the SBT is downloadable here:
